Afghanistan
The Aga Khan Health Service, Afghanistan (AKHS, A) has been allocated 190 government health facilities to improve the quality of health services provided across the region of Bamyan and Badakhshan in Afghanistan.
AKDN dHRC in collaboration with AKHS, A developed the Sehatmandi Tool, a digital health performance monitoring tool to facilitate performance monitoring of these facilities.
Sehatmandi, meaning well-being in the local language, is a tablet-based application, digitises the assessment and monitoring process of health facilities, which was previously done manually through paper-based forms. Through Sehatmandi Tool, health care administrators record data in real-time on predefined indicators for the tuberculosis and maternal and child health services provided by the facilities using a digital questionnaire.
The application has been successfully implemented in 115 health facilities across Badakhshan and 75 facilities in Bamyan and is being used by over 200 health care administrators for monthly clinical and administrative performance monitoring and reporting.
To overcome connectivity challenges across these provinces, the app can operate in offline mode, allowing data to be synchronised with the central server via SMS technology.
The application has been implemented as part of the Sehatmandi initiative, which is a three-year initiative implemented by the World Bank through the Afghanistan Reconstruction Trust Fund (ARTF) and implemented by the Ministry of Public Health. It aims to increase the utilization and quality of health, nutrition, and family planning services across Afghanistan.
